The Urban Design Committee (UDC) is an advisory board to the Planning Commission that reviews development on public property or in the public right-of-way. In their work, the UDC encourages high standards of urban design and an improved community appearance. Additionally, the UDC evaluates and recommends design overlay districts proposed by neighborhood groups.

Richmond VA "Crop Mob"

Richmond Crop Mob is an initiative of Richmond Ground Up, a network established by graduate students to utilize social media in addressing community needs. Through media such as Facebook and Twitter, Richmond Crop Mob will alert all of its participants and followers to urban gardening volunteering opportunities, including dates, times and locations. Followers can choose to attend these “mob” events, spend time working outdoors, and help build a sustainable urban agriculture movement here in Richmond. Each installation remained a focal point for the district and the city for three months. Awarded Virginia Commission for the Arts community grant of $10,000.00.
